Yes that's right, I cried. Not like weaping or anything but definitely a few tears there.

Finally seeing this novel come to life feels like such a sentimental thing to me. And the fact that Kristen (who is obviously going to rock this role) is MaryLou makes it all the more special.

*Sigh* Our girl is growing up.*Cough* And riding around nekkid with Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley. *Cough* ;)

Long story short, I am thrilled to finally see a movie adaptation of Kerouac's work. It's long over due. And I couldn't be more thrilled with the casting...pretty perfect! So am I the only one who had an emotional reaction...do tell!

See ya in Ch 7! xoTwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-87570866681466777622012-03-07T20:53:09.436-08:002012-03-07T20:53:09.436-08:00Wow, I have been a super slacker on the comments l...Wow, I have been a super slacker on the comments lately. Real life is a bitch and totally interferes with OTR awesomeness!

I have to start by saying I love the reference to the dynamic duo and their precious pup...pmsl on that one!

On to Ch 6...uh oh, is there a little dissension in the ranks? So Sal discovers that life hasn't been peachy keen while he has been making his way to Denver. The gang isn't all together and getting on famously as he had imagined. And just that little prelude in the very beginning suggests that the bumpy road with Dean has only just begun. Hmmmm...wonder what the future holds for this group?

I thought it was nice to get a bit of a back story on Dean as well as Chad. Dean's past has been rough and shady. I think hearing that gives a bit of perspective as to where he is coming from and may account for some of his behavior. On the total opposite end of the spectrum, Chad appears decent with a solid up bringing. Dark and gritty meets bright and fresh faced. It almost makes me wonder if that's the root of their discontent with one another...we shall see.

Til next time...xx :)TwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-80369714646702719972012-01-30T08:59:03.247-08:002012-01-30T08:59:03.247-08:00@TwiNurse02 Super sparkle points for New Moon quoa...@TwiNurse02 Super sparkle points for New Moon quoatage ;) I also love your take on the chapter - the pity for his melancholy and the bus station descriptions especially - by comparison, Denver's going to be golden!Lorabellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04740270608183229692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-11370749500916422092012-01-27T19:30:07.006-08:002012-01-27T19:30:07.006-08:00Hiya! I just happened to stop by bloggy land tonig...Hiya! I just happened to stop by bloggy land tonight and realized that Ch. 5 breakdown was posted a week ago! Gah...how did I miss it?!? Real life has not been kind these past few weeks. :(

Let's get back on the road...

This super short chappy felt a bit like an emotional roller coaster for Sal. He realizes that he's been a little stupid and reckless (*New Moon quoteage*) with not only his money but his time. And even though he's made some new acquaintances along the way, they in no way compare(in his mind)to his gang in Denver. Poor guy has even struck out with the ladies. So when he finally curls up on the bus station bench I have to say I had a slight twinge of pity on the dude. I loved the passage describing the "feeling of sadness that only bus stations have." That one line paints such a vivid picture. I can see overflowing trash bins and smell the stale cigarette smoke that lingers thick in the air. But after the melancholy reflection of his journey so far, the morning brings new perspective. Seeing the Rockies = seeing his goal. The whole dynamic in those last few paragraphs shifts. His mood is lifted, bouyant. And finally he is THERE...Denver baby!

See you guys next time...when he finds his boys. It's gonna go down! Right on! ;)TwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-47166458672496852302012-01-06T20:56:18.037-08:002012-01-06T20:56:18.037-08:00Hiya gals!
I thought Chapter 4 was soooo much fun...Hiya gals!

I thought Chapter 4 was soooo much fun! You guys mentioned it during your discussion, but I love the description of all the fellas on the flatbed. There is such detail of their mannerisms and especially their language. For every character I can almost hear their voice in my head as I read.

And I love how each person on the truck is seeking something. Some want a summer of fun, some are headed to work the harvest, some are headed to family far away. On the road together but craving different things. There is a recognition of a kindred spirit as they barrel down the highway. A realization of what a small world it is despite the vast, unending plains of the West. It's almost sad to see the flatbed gang go their seperate ways!

Cracks me up that those god forsaken shoes made a reappearence in this chapter!!! ;)

Thanks for another stellar breakdown...til Ch. 5! xx

P.S. @Lorabell - your pie looked A-MAZ-ING and @ LettieLou - the pic and movie quote above were super cute! (And spot on I might add...the pic matches the truck in my mind EXACTLY!)TwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-40730690213532922112011-12-26T12:39:29.686-08:002011-12-26T12:39:29.686-08:00@TwiNurse02 Completely forgot about how he forgets...@TwiNurse02 Completely forgot about how he forgets himself when he first wakes up - I was so wrapped up in the description of the room and feeling like I was seeing what he was seeing - but love that too. He's so far away from home and outside of his normal life that he doesn't recognize who he is, but also makes me think that "who he is" is changing on his journey :) it's kind of the point in taking the trip I guess - to find who he is. Although, I recently came upon the idea that such things aren't about "finding" but "making" who you are :)
P.s. F-LOVING that you're reading along SO hard xxxLorabellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04740270608183229692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-37277248131856590372011-12-23T20:20:15.395-08:002011-12-23T20:20:15.395-08:00Solid breakdown girls! :)
Just a few thoughts...
...Solid breakdown girls! :)

Just a few thoughts...

Thankfully our dear Sal is finally starting to make progress! This chapter is where the road really starts to come to life. It's not just asphalt under truck tires, but this palpable thing, living and breathing.

I love the way you referred to the "bumping along." That's the perfect term for it. Don't you totes feel like you're in some big rig hauling ass down the freeway yelling over the clamoring motor?!?

He is finally moving not just literally but figuratively. One of my favorite passages in the chapter is when he acknowledges "the dividing line" in his life. The New York boy is becoming the West bound man. Kinda gives me a chill when he describes those few seconds where he doesn't even recognize himself.

Everything holds more appeal for him the farther West he roams. The pie gets better, the girls get prettier. Yet it almost seems he holds back, won't let himself really indulge until he reaches his destination and is with his boys. (Silly Sal, the journey is the fun part...live it up my man!) Then he knows...it's gonna be ON! ;)

Ah and who can forget the "rawhide oldtimer" on pg. 18-19. Can't you just envision this guy?!? I love Sal's endearing regard for this man who sort of personifies the West he is looking for.

Final thought...how cute is it that he sends his aunt a post card?!? Awww!

Until Chapter 4...xxTwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8121725873514737451.post-88316377223738220192011-12-16T17:09:01.187-08:002011-12-16T17:09:01.187-08:00@Anon SOOO stoked you like! I read OTR in college, but considering that's been awhile I was planning to re-read it over Christmas...so I'm sure to be thoroughly prepared when Marylou Stew hits the big screen. This little gem of a blog couldn't have come at a better time! Such a fab idea! So I'll be reading along with you ladies and may even pop in with a comment or two! :)TwiNurse02https://www.blogger.com/profile/17560202818338851214noreply@blogger.com
